The British navy
has a long and proud history and during the turn of 20th century
they ruled the seas across the world. The British Empire had colonies across
the globe which needed to be protected from sea attack, this lead to proper
funding to the navy which was readily available due to its riches from its
colonies. However everything changed after the 2nd world war, most
of the colonies got independence and funding for navy was dramatically reduced.
The following problems eventually lead the way for change in the navy
·
Rising cost
·
Decreasing operational efficiency
·
Increasing of bureaucratic process
·
Restriction on Ministry of Defense (MOD)
management when they operated under as part of a wider civil service.

The
case on Faslane basically talks about the transition of management from the
government (Ministry of Defense) to a private sector ( Babcock Marine). This
case is a perfect example on how a change in management can bring a lot of
positive changes to a struggling organization. The new and effective strategy
brought by the Babcock management help the Faslane to save on their cost. This
final assessment covers everything that I have studied in my year-long module.
It requires me to critically analyze the changes in Faslane with the help of
numerous tools that I have learned so far.
