Week 1

(1) What are you hoping to learn from this module? (Think generally about both knowledge and skills)

From this module I am looking forward to improve my understanding about strategy and how it used in the real business world. I am also hoping I will be able to develop a deeper understanding of different types of strategies. Hence after the completion of this module I want to develop the necessary skills required, so that in future as a project manager I will be able to analyze, select and implement required project.   

(2). How might this module be useful to you after passing out of Institution (think specifically about what you want to do when you leave)?

As far as creating a strategy and implementing it is concerned, the closest thing I have done related to is through computer games that I played when I was young. I played age of empires in which I as a player have to learn to manage resources, manpower, time, money and other variables to attack and defeat my enemy. In that game I as a general have to create a strategy on balancing resources such as how much money to focus on expanding army, how much to spend on upgrading technology etc. While attacking enemy I have to create strategy to attack their weakness and conquer it. And at the same time I must also work out strategy on how to defend my base with only few soldiers when main army is away. At that time I neither had theoretical knowledge nor practical experience on strategic management. Whatever decision I made was based on hunch and I relied more on hope.

However now after sitting thought my 3^rd week of lecture and workshop on strategic management I am slowing grasping the theoretical concept of strategy management.  I am already gaining different range of practical management tools for strategic management. I am learning how to analyze different choice, chose the best choice and implement it. In future I also believe after passing out of this institution I will gain enough knowledge which increases my chance of employment at entry level for different strategy management post.  As I am expecting to improve my skills on researching, analyzing , evaluating , making decision, presenting different data implementing it and influencing others as well. Beside my employment I think it will also help me in my daily life in future. When I get married and have children I do believe my knowledge gain from this strategic management will help me to formulate a strategy to maintain fund for their higher education.         

  3. Describe three things you will do that will help you to learn and to get good marks on this module   

 (a) Group discussion: - Making decision after consulting with group is always better, this was also evident during our class taken by our guest lecturer Lisa Day . When we first analyzed the case paper of Google I was only able to come up with limited analysis but after we were made to discuss in group, we managed to come out with more and better analysis in which our lecturer also agreed to our views.  

(b) Research:  Instead of just gaining theoretical knowledge , I believe we should understand hands on practical knowledge as well. The closest thing we can come is by doing research of various case papers. We did case paper on Google, personally I really feel this is a really good method. For that case paper I was able to understand how Google use different strategic method and tools to become what it is today.

(c) Studying :- I will also be learning and studying all the theoretical aspect of strategy management , I will try to study and revise whatever I learned in class at home. I will also be updating my online journal as early as possible.

4. Describe three things that others (your lecturer, classmates, others…) could do that would help you to learn and to get good marks on this module  

(a) Lecturer ; - We can conduct some more case study paper whenever it is possible, our lecturer could also provide us with real life examples and information in class

(b) Classmates : We could help each other while doing extra practice of numerical problems and software when we are outside class

(c) College :- Make necessary resources easily available
